Enterprise IoT Platform (5 months)
Redefining the smart security camera ecosystem
SAST, a corporate venture by Bosch, was building an open IoT platform for smart security cameras. It enables developers to create new camera apps and post them to a public app store, so that integrators can install and manage them on cameras for their enterprise customers.
Cross-platform enterprise ecosystems are inherently messy. As the portfolio grew to encompass multiple web and native applications, the experience was becoming increasingly disjointed. SAST asked us to analyse and streamline their key products, as well as boost the performance of their in-house design team.

By the end of our time embedded with the client's team, we redesigned the overall navigation and two of their highest priority tools to deliver a measurably better user experience. I also led the upskilling of their in-house team on new research methods and optimized handover processes.

Outcomes
+12pt
Increase in tool usability
Based on before and after testing with SUS (system usability scale), we saw a notable improvement in the usability score of the main Integrator tool and workflow.
30%
Increase in team velocity
Through the introduction of a lightweight DLS and optimization of the review process, from user story definition to final approved design and handover.
400
Free espressos consumed
By the team during our time at the company’s WeWork space, while we colocated with the in-house SAST product team.

Agile Coach
As the Principal Designer, I was responsible for helping the team work through complexity— both within the product itself and in the design processes surrounding it:
- Oversaw design quality and consistency across 4 product workstreams
- Led the mapping of E2E journeys for different user types
- Designed a new cross-app navigation model
- Hosted regular cross-product design reviews to ensure consistency
- Trained the team on testing methods (e.g. heuristic analyses, iterative UTs, etc.)
- Ran workshops to prioritise features with senior stakeholders
Mapping cross-product journeys to identify gaps & opportunities
For camera integrators, a single job-to-be-done often spans multiple SAST products. I encouraged the team to map an E2E journey for each main user type to help us zoom out and highlight the biggest gaps or issues. These journeys were also a critical tool for aligning with the SAST product owners on where to conduct deeper usability testing.
We then ran a more detailed heuristics analysis on the top-priority flows, such as app installation for offline cameras. The issues that couldn't be addressed in the initial re-design were added to the backlog.

Proposing a new IA and navigation
The products were originally structured in an awkward way that didn’t support intuitive switching between developer and integrator tools. I rethought this architecture and designed a navigation model that better aligned with the user roles and their respective journeys.

Streamlining the Dev Console and Camera Portal
The redesigned Developer Console makes it easier for developers to add new smart camera applications to the SAST marketplace, as well as manage versions and analyze issues. We also overhauled the Camera Management Portal with batch UX workflows, saving Integrators significant time when installing apps on multiple cameras.

We focused on interactions that would help integrators save time, such as batch login to multiple cameras.
Strengthening the design team
In addition to the platform UX, I also up-skilled the SAST design team in research methods and increased their speed from discovery to development, through new tools and best practices in cross-functional collaboration:
- Instated daily design reviews
- Trained the team on iterative usability testing
- Ran workshops on user story writing & backlog mgmt
- Leveraged Material Design library for faster dev
- Invited POs and Devs directly into Figma
